I purchased an older (built in the 1970's) home. In the first year I was horrified by the cost of electricity since it was an all electric home and not well insulated. After many complaints to the electric company a service technician noted that there was gas to the curb, apparently others on the block converted. I did the conversion, it was a cost of about $5000. for new water heater, and the work involved. It had paid itself off in less then 2 years and now I must do the other things that will assist in using less gas, such as better insulation. It was a first step and a large one.
