We purchased a 40 year old mobile home about 10 years ago. We had no idea of the pitfalls we'd find.
After a couple of extremely high electric bills, we decided we needed to change the way the house was functioning. We replaced a 40 year old hot water heater that was leaking (unknown at purchase), replaced out electric dryer with an energy star gas dryer, replaced a 40 year old refrigerator with an energy start unit, replaced a 40 year old gas range with a new one. Our electric savings were impressive. We've insulated the skirting of the mobile with R-10 foam board, repaired the duct work underneath, and insulated the ceilings with R-10 board topped with lock & fit tiles. So far, we've dropped our utility bills by 20%.
