I understand the need for energy conservation, because I work for the local power company. Our company strives to make the planet greener by investing in alternative fuel vehicles, operating one of the largest solar arrays in North America, and we even generate power by pumping in methane from the local city dumps. As an employee, I strive to do my part as well. We bought an older house a few years ago, and it really isnt very energy efficient. In the first year I replaced all the 1980s kitchen appliances with newer more energy efficient models, but true energy savings requires a larger investment than our family can give right now. My plans for the future include a more efficient air conditioning unit, replacing the single pane windows with more efficient ones, and someday I hope to install some solar tiles on the roof.
On a daily basis I see the energy consumed in this rapidly growing city and really wish that I could do my part to help. It is just very challenging, because doing the right thing, the green thing, takes more money than we can give. I would like to have an energy efficient home and really be a good example. If people at the power company dont try to conserve, why should anybody else.
