Everything we tried did not decrease our energy bill to a significant amount until we moved into the smaller guest room recently and put a small window A/C unit in the window. We reprogrammed the thermostat so the house A/C was not running all the time. We also put all small appliances, clocks, computers and accessories on power strips. When we leave the house we turn everything off except the refrigerator, freezer and stove. It has cut our electrical consumption by 50%! We're also testing our auto gas consumption usage by keeping our speed to under 60mph or 5mph under posted limits in the city and replaced vehicle air filters with K&N filters. So far we're getting at least 20% better mileage which is saving us even more money.
